Youth are expected to wear costumes at all times during Quest (except while sleeping).
Each youth needs to have at least 2 full costumes for the week.
Costumes include:
Tunic
Vest (over tunic)
Belt
Two simple accessories like a bracelet, beaded necklace, or headband. These should be minimalistic, and not over the top as to set yourself above others.
Costumes should:
be made of inexpensive fabrics. Choose fabrics that are light and will help you stay cool at camp during the warm days. Cotton sheets or table cloths can work perfectly.
be made of natural printed fabrics. Please keep colors to natural tones and if the fabric has a pattern, please make sure it is striped or tribal printed or very natural looking. We want the costumes to feel time period appropriate. If it doesn't look like something they would have had during Nephite times, please don't use it.
be modest. Youth will wear shorts/leggings and T-shirts under their costumes, but costumes should not be low cut in the front or back, should not hang off the shoulder and should not be excessively short.
be individualized. While there might be some similar fabrics, we discourage youth and wards from making matching costumes and accessories. We are trying to promote Stake unity and avoid cliques.
Other considerations:
Tunics should be large enough to be worn over regular clothing (t-shirt and knee-length shorts/pants and possibly a sweatshirt after dark) and loose enough to allow for movement.
Choose patterns and earth tone colors that are true to Book of Mormon time period; no bright neons, rainbow prints or logos.
Be mindful of hot outside temperatures - make clothing out of materials that are as lightweight as possible and from breathable fabrics.
Restrictions: No camis, personal jewelry, flip-flops/sandals, modern fabrics such as pink, leopard, camo, floral prints, rainbow, etc., temporary tattoos, or skin or face painting.
Other clothing needs for the week:
Knee-length Shorts: Shorts should be worn under all Nephite attire at all times. It will be hot so keep that in mind if you choose to wear pants. Be sure they are lightweight and breathable. No short shorts please..
T-shirts: T-shirts or other types of lightweight tops should be worn under tunics.
Shoes: Two pairs of closed-toed, comfortable tennis/hiking shoes. No sandals, flip-flops, crocs, slides or Berkenstocks. We don't want you to relive the Nephite experience of blistered and torn feet.
